Great video. What I've often seen is that even for beginners, if they follow the good instructions with the proper practice, they will learn and develop the correct curved pinky relatively easily; It is extremely challenging for those who already have "established" (so used to) playing violin with the first 2 knuckles all collapsed (flat straight) on the finger-4. I appreciate your work
Thanks for watching! ❤😊
Yeah just eat it 😂
I bought the Kreddle. It's really ingenious, but I find that it's weak spot is the plate. I find it far too small.
Hi Sue, yes, that jaw plate is smaller than the average chin rest, for sure!
lynn, you are the best violinist and a great teacher, I keep coming back to you to learn so many techniques! Thank you so much!
Aww, that is absolutely the kindest and most genuine comment someone could write. 🙏 😊 Thank you SO much! 🥰 🎻
Great explanations and fun techniques ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 🎻
At first I was so confused. After a few times watching I realised i was reading from right to left LOL now I got it! Thanks for the tips! ❤
Oh, right to left? Now that does sound confusing! 😅 Thanks for watching!
Yes! There was a difference. The second was more muffled but smoother. The first was jarring and more jabbing! A good word would be startling! Your second was less startling more muffled or muted but smoother. Originally my great grandfather had a cremona copy by sears and when i recieved it it had a kidney shaped very thin only1/8 inch from top plate. It was without a ledge or roll, just a shiny polished black kidney shape no ledge for grip of chin
Continued from user do, all this to say my student violin has a wooden chin rest but now seems too high and like a Boulder in my neck. It's very uncomfortable. I may hack it down with a small plane or use a Drexel tool to re cup the rest. I have stuck felt disks along the edge and covered with ace bandage type of athletic elastic but I got tired of that and felt that there was no freedom of my head to move. Like I was locked in. I didn't like that feeling. So I removed both violins chin rests and played bare back for a while. But then I decide I want the support to do vibrato and hold instrument with my chin, so now I back to using chim rest. I like the idea of using your cradel chinrest but feel it is too high.. I think I will plane off some material from my wooden chin rest on my student instrument. I have an everest shoulder rest with I've stuck o balled up sock at one end; seems pretty good. The shoulder rest I want is the Libero, but it comes in three heights and I'm not sure which height to order! Pluss it's too expensive if I can't find correct height. Did you know Dr. Kwou! That you can stick felt disks around edge and wrap your chin rest with athletic bandage to achieve a pretty comfortable chin rest at a fraction the cost of a custom chinrest? I used this method for a short couple of weeks and I could hold my instrument with my head and no left hand. I may go back to this myself. In all honesty I feel that the cradle too high and put me way over the finger board almost like Indian fiddler. I like fingerboard to be at eye level so I can watch my fingers. I'm glad for you you seem to have pretty good fit for your particular anatomy. All my needs are to get my chin off the top plate, hold the instrument so I don't use lft thumb and at least have some movement to look around without feeling locked in. I know that's a tall order but that's what I need. Youve been very helpful Dr.Kwo thank you! Most greatful! C.e.on west coast usa.😅
@@user-do5hd7zb4xBest of luck, Chris! It sounds like you have considerable experience going through a lot of gear!
I liked
Thanks for watching!
This by far is the most helpful video I have come across so far on Vibrato :) The "Cool Hang exercise" really helped. I seem to be developing more of an arm vibrato, so I found this particular exercise really great for building that arm and finger strength. Thanks!
I’m so glad, Erynn! Thanks for letting me know which exercise you found the most helpful! Happy Long Weekend! 🎆
@lynnkuo - wonderful playing!!!! Incredible setting! As I listen using AirPod pro on my MAC I hear lots of what sound sometimes like overtones (in the right tonality), and sometimes like wind noise and sometimes like people talking in the background (different tonality). Is that just the reality an open air recording? Would love to hear that live in a concert hall...or studio recording!!! Wonderful!
Thanks, John! My audio engineer had to do a lot of work on the recording due to the wind. He literally had to use “anti-wind” filter or something like that and explained that that’s what you’re hearing in terms of the weird noises you hear. 🙂
I was listening to you speak, ignoring the music. In the back of my mind, I thought, "this music sounds really familiar." Then you say: "As you can see, I'm practicing it in scales..." It's nice to be humbled in a way that's also inspiring! (Have you ever used Tonic?)
Thanks for watching my video! Hmm, what is Tonic? A metronome app? I use Tunable as well and in this app, I’m using Tonal Energy.
@@violynnkuo actually just downloaded Tonal energy. Maybe they should sponsor you ;) Tonic is a training motivator, but also has a live studio feature. I just lost my streak, as I've been traveling, but up until June 12th I had a 70 day streak, with a daily average of 45 minutes of practice per day. It's been helpful to me for building & maintaining momentum. As a teacher, you could join your student's studios; they can be private studios, from which the student can invite a teacher or peer to just hangout, or provide feedback. They can also be public, which is a fun way for people to meet musicians all over the world
@@Ogg13tube That sounds very motivating! For my VIP Students, I actually host weekly practice sessions (which I call Lynnja Sessions) and I guide them through a focussing/breathing/visualization exercise at the beginning and we work on our own repertoire while I run a practice timer. It's a great way to level up and have accountability with like-minded violinists around the world!
I’m older, not technically proficient. Thanks for your videos to introduce me to iMovie so I can post my guitar learning progress to RUclips.
You're very welcome, Kerry! Yes, technology moves so fast, it's hard to keep up!
Oh my... all the flashery of the violin. As it's usually largo that brings out foibles in disciplines such as voice, that's what I listen for. I can't keep up with this stuff- but the way Ertan Torgul cuts that lovely device in half, or Ahram Kim makes it moan like (nameless popular Turtkish singer)- these approaches impart your chosen instrument a character that we the people often don't get to hear. Everyone thinks of flash and flourish- but the violin's deeper, darker side brings out so much. I'm almost there in cutting up microphones to get it. That F in Evaristo. I've heard it played as a tone- then I've heard it as some neural meltdown of expression. Widely expressive instruments in the right hands. I'm impressed, after having heard just half of it for so long. Thanks for your insights to those who actually produce these sounds.
Thanks for watching and for your comment!
@@violynnkuo Thanks for your own attentiveness. I enjoy the viols, as an outsider to them (it was always something else for me to pursue)- but the fact that the violin can stretch its voice beyond what we hear a la Quattro Stagioni's flurries or soli above an orchestra was a pet target of mine after mixing some for a Mr. Maksin's cello. I liken to the chalumeau of the clarinet, or the lower stops of harpsichord with leather, not plastic, plectra. There's a richness to be had from it. Usually, for me, the violins are up there with the other voices in chamber, but rarely, they have taken on their own pedestal. I asked Ahram Kim what strings she used, I knew not Super Sensitives- but she didn't say. I was too preoccupied during Ertan's appearance. They both get that mystic sound of breath. Think a tiny cello. That wide envelope. I used to think it stopped at the viola, but they got it. If anyone can appreciate that facet, you can. (And, monetized or not, the fact of your sharing your dedication with the World is remarkable. It is a gift to music in itself.)
Very helpful, I will definitely work on this!
I'm so glad you find it helpful, Lisa! Good luck and be careful not to strain the fourth finger (like I did!)
Thanks dear Lynn , very informative and inspiring
You are so welcome, Jean!
Thanks dear Lyn , very informative and inspiring
I’ll glad you found it helpful, Jean!
Great tutorial do you happen to have the sheet for the left finger placements thanks 😁
Thank you for watching! Did you mean the music played in the introduction? That was from Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo-Capriccioso. 🙂
@@violynnkuo yes thank you:)
I apologize I guess I missed when you said paganini caprice 24 almost at the end. You sound really great 5:48 that passage resembles like a double stop kinda scale
@@TnSn5 Ah yes, that’s right! One of the Paganini Caprice 24 variations. 👍🙂
I counted 6 Cs, but I presume, Calm, consistent, control, contact awareness? Will watch the whole video
My 4 C’s in Bow Technique: 1. Calm 2. Consistency 3. Control 4. Contact Point 🙂
Glad I found this.❤
Hi Wade, I’m happy you found it helpful!
Thank you for posting this.
You’re very welcome, Emmet!
The use of the legs in Piano playing is important (and nobody seems to know !). Glad you stress that importance. And the famous Jazz trumpeter Dizzie Gillespie would add this (and he is absolutely right) : ruclips.net/video/GU2vhUJmD7Y/видео.html
Glad you agree, Frederic! Thanks so much for sharing that link!
@@violynnkuo I would also add that I have never met an instrumentalist (certainly not pianists) who was aware of how solid the Abs [ rectus abdominis muscles ] must be to support the upper body. We all neglect to strengthen those muscles. [ rectus abdominis - slung between the ribs and the pubic bone at the front of the pelvis. When contracting, this muscle has the characteristic bumps or bulges that are commonly called 'the six pack'. The main function of the rectus abdominis is to move the body between the ribcage and the pelvis.]. I guess I must now go to exercise :) (By the way, if we misspell 'pianist' to 'painist', there is the word 'pain' that appears !)
@@fredericlinden I would say that more important than the rectus abdominus are the deeper core muscles that are used to support posture and stability. These muscles are targeted in Pilates training, for example, and can help alleviate the more surface muscles from doing the job of BOTH supporting the body/posture AND trying to execute playing movements.
@@violynnkuo Well said !
@@fredericlinden Thank you, Frederic! Cheers!
Very Effective Teaching like Beginner Violin Student. Thankyou So much Teacher (Madan)
Very clear and good demonstrations because you show hand movements and upper body posture. Thank you. have watched a lot of videos, but yours were clear and simple. Good communication. Well done.
You're very welcome, Connie! I’m so glad you found it clear and helpful!
Wow, your upbows and downbows sound the same. I struggle with that
Hey Noa, keep at it. I’m sure you’ll improve! 😊
Gr8! Intergallactic certified. Congratulation.
Thanks so much, Fred!
You got that tight core 😊
Ha, thanks Bess!! <3
I think my bowing isn’t capable of that. and the sound i’m getting from my instrument is awful. maybe i need to spend more than forty dollars on a violin/case/bow combo!
Hey Daniel, equipment does help! Good luck! 🎻
Now that's pushing the envelope!❤
I saw Cirque du Soleil‘s latest show “Echo”… now THAT was pushing the envelope!! 🤩 🤩 🎪
@@violynnkuo Alpine ski racers train on balance boards to help agility and balance also! This has to be good for your knee rehab and generally being all around awesome!👌
@@Soundgear4 Yes, a friend left the balance board behind and used it to train balance for skating as well as rehab her injured knee!
Jesus Christ absolute master
Thanks so much for watching!
Fantastic! I am from India !Best wishes Dr. Lynn.
Many thanks! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦!
I love you my sweet little Hummingbird 🥰 🐦 🥰💃🇨🇦🙏🙏
hi, may I ask what app that you use?
This one is Tonal Energy App, primarily a tuner app but also has a powerful metronome app, which can also randomly silence beats, record audio clips, and give you visual feedback and graphs on your intonation accuracy (based on whatever tuning system you’d like to tune to.)
That high note was really pretty ☺️
Thank you, thank you 🙏! 🎻 ❤ Have a great weekend, Elliot!
